Who invented trash compactor?

There are various types of trash compactors and the first trash compactors that were invented and used were meant for industrial and commercial uses. The patent for the first trash compactor was done in 1941 by MS Wells. This was meant for crushing the oil cans. Even before that, trash compactors may have been around; however patents were not filed for them. It was much later in the 1970’s that the trash compactors that are used for residential purposes were used. John A. Boyd was among the first one to file a patent for compacting the household trash that was produced. The design that was used by Boyd used hydraulic pressure from a direct water connection. This enabled the garbage to be crushed and turned into a single bundle that could then be easily disposed off.

In 1991, John Bauer gave a revised update to the residential trash compactor and had two compartments for the recyclable trash and the non recyclable trash. Modern trash compactors now use technology for making them more efficient and can handle dry and wet waste as well as control the various odors that emanate from within the trash. In many American cities, solar powered trash compactors have been placed in many sidewalks, that don’t require any electricity and even reduce the amount of volume that is being sent to the landfill.
