Who Invented Cool Whip?

William Mitchell – Cool Whip was invented by William Mitchell in 1966.

William A. Mitchell worked as a senior food scientist for the Birds Eye division within the General Foods Company. The product was a great hit becoming the largest and most profitable product in the Birds Eye division. Later the department merged with Kraft Foods which transferred the manufacturing rights of the product and then in 2015 Kraft merged with Heinz to become the Kraft Heinz Company. Cool Whip was a whipped cream type product which could be sold frozen and kept in consumers fridges. It was initially considered to be non-dairy due to it not containing any cream, milk or lactose. It did however contain some caseinate which is a milk derivative and since 2010 light cream and milk have been added to the recipe. It is hugely popular in Canada and America.
