Who invented hockey?

It was around 4000 years back; in the name of Keryetezin, that hockey was played in Egypt with horns and a spherical ball shaped thing. In 1363 Edward III of England published a proclamation in which the word hockey was born. The 19th century witnessed the uplift of hockey. In 1849 the public schools in England introduced the game and the first club for the same was formed in Black heath in London. The Teddington hockey club formed the modern rules for the game and also introduced the striking circle and sphere from a rubber cube. Hockey association was found in 1886 and International Rules Board in1900. Summer Olympics added hockey in the year 1908 and 1920. Though Summer Olympics dropped hockey in 1924 but the game again became its part in 1928.

The game of hockey came to India in the early 20th century with the British. The Beighton cup and Aga Khan Tournaments were then introduced. Indians mastered the game and when they played for their first Olympics in1928 they were the ones to win all the five matches. They won numerous gold medals from the Olympics till 1980. It was only after the partition of India in 1947 that India faced Pakistan as a competition. Modern day hockey sticks are J-shaped and are made of wood, glass fibre or carbon fibre. Without much knowledge on who invented hockey or where or when it was invented, people round the globe play hockey and it is the national game of India and Pakistan.
