Who invented internet?

The development of internet started in1957 when the first satellite Sputnik was launched by the Soviet Union. The team of experts set to work as the Americans felt the need of network system for security. Defense Advance Research Project Agency was set up in 1958 to work and save the country from missile attacks. Joseph Licklider was appointed as the chief of New Information Processing Technique office (IPTO) and his was the main contribution in the development of internet. J. Licklider was not a computer programmer so he hired Lawrence Robert to work on his ideas. Lawrence headed the team and developed ARPANET in 1967. He used packet switching developed by Leonard for transferring data. The first computer to connect to the internet was designed in the University of California, Los Angeles after the hard work of several years and eventually three more computers came up in 1969 bringing the internet era.

Lawrence Robert left his job at ARPA in 1973 to work on Telenet- the world’s first commercial network. Robert Kahn and Vitron Cerf took Robert’s place in ARPA and designed IP protocols which took over packet switching. It became the most widely used network protocol of the world.

In 1990 NSFNET took over ARPANET and joined hands with CSNET which linked universities around North America and EUNET for Europe. By 1990 web and the use of internet was on the track of popularity.?
